COOKING PREPARATION Coffee Whip:

A girl can only eat so many before they start going bad, you know?

So I think you can guess what has been on the menu in our house lately. Strawberries. Strawberries in cake, strawberries in salad, strawberries in Jam, Strawberries on ice cream, strawberries on toast. I now present. The strawberry galette! My favorite way to use up those extra strawberries.


What kind of instant coffee should I use?

In short, use your favorite instant coffee.

So far, I & rsquove made this with the Nescafe Classico and Kava Instant Coffee. I & rsquove also used Davidoff, which is spectacular if a bit pricey.

The Classico is bold and delicious. The Kava is super smooth tasting, so if you aren & rsquot a fan of acidic coffee, this might be the one for you.

And the Davidoff is just really, really good. I & rsquom sorry I can & rsquot be more specific. It & rsquos just delicious.

Cafe Bustelo also whips up into an excellent cup of dalgona coffee.


Nutella Dalgona Coffee Whip Recipe

Ingredients & Supplies

Directions

  1. Let your Nutella chocolate hazelnut spread come to room temperature.
  2. Once at room temperature add 2 tbsp of Nutella, 2 tbsp of sugar and 2 tbsp of instant coffee to 2 tablespoons of boiling water. Stir to combine thoroughly.
  3. Use your hand mixer on one of the highest speeds to whip your mixture until soft peaks form. Scrape down the sides to make certain everything mixes well. Continue to beat until hard peaks form, this takes approximately 4-6 minutes in total.
  4. Fill a glass with milk to about 2/3 full. Add ice if you want a cold drink. Gently spoon on the coffee mixture.
  5. Sprinkle with some cocoa powder or mini chocolate chips to garnish. Stir together to enjoy.

To begin, add your Instant coffee, sugar, and water to a mixing bowl and whisk using a hand whisk, electric hand mixer, or a stand mixer.

Whip the mixture for 5-7 minutes or until the mixture is stiff (think whipped cream) and has reached a pale caramel color. Be patient with this step because at first, it may seem like it will never come together but it will magically pull through.

After the coffee has reached the perfect consistency, scoop 1-2 tablespoons into an 8oz glass of cold (or iced) milk or warm milk.

The coffee mixture will be strong but remember it will be diluted with the milk. Use less milk for a strong flavor and more milk for a light flavor. Feel free to add sugar as needed.


Dairy-Free Dalgona Coffee Whip for Barista-Style Drinks and Desserts

Word of Dalgona Coffee quickly spread on social media, with people making the coffee whip at home and photographing their results. The coffee is made by whipping together equal parts of instant coffee granules, sugar, and hot water. The coffee whip is then served on top of hot or cold milk. Not everyone loves Dalgona Coffee, but I think it is a great way to make an easy, dairy-free coffee drink. I like the taste, too. Sweet and bitter and creamy & # 8211just like fancy coffee shop drinks. The coffee photographed here is served on top of plain almond milk. My daughter likes to drink it with chocolate almond milk. I sometimes make it with decaf coffee crystals, which also work. While this recipe is for one serving, I sometimes divide the whipped coffee between two cups of dairy-free milk for smaller servings.

  • Can You Add Flavors to the Whip? It & # 8217s a delicate balance. Liquids like extracts will hurt the whip performance, but you can add them to your milk beverage if making dalgona coffee. A little cinnamon or cocoa powder doesn & # 8217t usually hurt the whip too much, but can cause it to be a little less boi
  • Can Other Powders be Used? Some people have tried matcha, espresso, and other bases in place of the instant coffee. Unfortunately, they have found the need to add aquafaba, egg white, cream, or coconut cream to make it work. They essentially become a different type of whip altogether.


We Tried This Viral Whipped Instant Coffee Hack!

Combine instant coffee, sugar, and hot water, and vanilla in a small bowl. Use a mixer to whip the mixture for a minute or two until it becomes thickened and light in color.

According to the LATimes.com, Dalgona coffee is inspired by the South Korean dalgona candy, and involves whipping instant coffee, granulated sugar and water into a rich gooey solid looking mixture that almost looks like toffee. It starts out black and then when whipped changes color to a satisfying and yummy mixture.

You can use a whisk like they do in this viral YouTube video from the Bustle.com, or you can use an electric hand mixer like we did to make it much faster! Then you pour it over iced milk, and mix it all together. We also added vanilla extract, and it was so tasty.

The result is a super creamy, rich iced coffee drink that is so fun and easy to make at home!

Ingredients

2 oz Tullamore D.E.W. Original
1 tsp ground espresso
2 tsp demerara sugar
2 tsp hot water
3 oz cold brew coffee
Fresh cream

Instructions
Combine whiskey and espresso in a small bowl and let stand for 15 minutes. Strain through coffee filter into a cocktail shaker. Meanwhile stir sugar and hot water until dissolved then add to shaker with cold brew and ice. Shake and strain and serve up in a Collins glass. Top with cream.

.5 shot Brandy
.5 shot Grand Marnier
.5 shot Kahlua
4-5 oz hot coffee
1 orange peel
.5 cup whipped cream
.5 tsp sugar

Directions:
Put the whipped cream in either a bowl and whip with a whisk (electric orotherwise) or you can put it in the blender. Whip until soft peaks and then add sugar to taste.

Take your orange peel and lightly "burn" with a lighter. This will help the oils come out and will flavor the coffee later.

Pour the brandy, grand marnier, kaluha, and freshly brewed coffee into a mug. Stir with the orange peel. Spoon some whipped cream on top and enjoy right away!

You’re wondering if this step is necessary. I have made whipped cream by sort of chilling the bowl ahead of time .. meaning last minute I stick it in the freezer or I pull it out of the freezer too early and by the time I actually whip the cream, the bowl isn't chilled anymore.

Jonesing for your fancy coffee fix now that your favorite cafe is closed and you’re sheltering at home? Well, this DIY caffeinated concoction is whipping people into a frenzy.

It’s called dalgona coffee - or whipped coffee: a mixture of equal parts instant coffee, sugar and hot water that is beaten until it reaches a creamy peanut butter-like consistency, which is then spooned over a glass of milk on the rocks. The drink first came into the public eye in January, when actor Jung Il-woo tried it on the popular South Korean TV show "Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant." He likened the drink to dalgona - a South Korean honeycomb toffee candy.

But dalgona coffee didn’t get much buzz outside of South Korea until early March, when TikTok user Hannah Cho (@iamhannahcho) posted a couple of how-to videos for mixing the drink, including one where she whips up a cup for her mom that’s been viewed more than 12 million times, and another where she and her best friend have fun making a mess of it. By March 13, President Trump had declared the COVID-19 outbreak a national emergency, and many states were in the process of temporarily closing non-essential businesses and schools, and encouraging Americans to work from home, if possible. That’s also when Google GOOG, + 2.05% saw a spike in searches for “dalgona coffee,” which peaked the week of March 29-April 4, before a resurgence at the beginning of this week.

Now the hashtag #dalgonacoffee has at least 214.3 million views on TikTok. The same hashtag finds almost 300,000 posts on Instagram. And the trend has inspired ASMR-style YouTube tutorials that linger over the sounds of the instant coffee crystals being scooped into the bowl this clip below has racked up more than 4.5 million views.

There are also posts all across Facebook FB, + 1.60%, Instagram and Twitter TWTR, + 3.38%, with each one flaunting pics of the must-have sip of the pandemic.

Others have tapped their inner barista to put their own spin on it, such as substituting the instant coffee for matcha or cocoa powder to create green tea or mocha variations, or topping the confections with spices or marshmallows. (Indeed, some analysts are concerned that Starbucks customers won’t spend the way they used to once the lockdowns are lifted.)

But considering all of the booze and comfort food that people are turning to while isolating themselves at home (like baking copious amounts of bread), why did a frothy coffee become the first foodie trend to blow up on social media during quarantine?

Stephanie Le, who writes the I am a Food Blog with her husband / photographer Michael, told MarketWatch that she believes dalgona coffee satisfies our craving for that latte or other specialty sip that folks used to grab during their daily commutes or coffee breaks before so many offices and coffee shops closed.

“It’s probably one of the things that people started really missing: their daily coffee fix either from Starbucks SBUX, + 1.59% or whatever their favorite coffee place happened to be,” she said. "Dalgona is a cute way to have coffee time at home."

Plus, even if it can take five minutes or more to whip up that coffee cream just right, this is still a snap compared to spending up to eight days or so cultivating a sourdough starter from scratch. And many people already have the four main ingredients on hand: instant coffee, sugar, water and milk. “Not everyone has everything they need to make chocolate chip cookies or fun cocktails,” added Le. "(But) almost everyone has instant coffee, and if not, it's just one ingredient to pick up as opposed to many."

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons instant coffee
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons very hot / boiling water
  • 2 glasses milk (with ice cubes)

Instructions

  1. Bring a small pot of water to a boil.
  2. While the water’s coming to a boil, make the dalgona coffee fluff: In a bowl, mix together the instant coffee and sugar.
  3. Once the water comes to a boil, carefully add 2 tablespoons of the hot water to the coffee sugar mix, and whisk or use a hand mixer to whip until light and frothy.
  4. Fill two glasses with ice and pour in the milk.
  5. Top the glasses with equal amounts of the fluffy coffee. Stir thoroughly before enjoying.

And here are her five hacks for mixing the perfect cup of dalgona coffee:

  1. Make sure you’re using instant coffee crystals, not coffee grounds. You want the coffee to dissolve quickly.
  2. Use boiling water. It will instantly dissolve the coffee and sugar - and if it dissolves instantly, you will have fluffier and frothier dalgona.
  3. Sugar is the best sweetener if you want the fluffiest coffee, because it helps stabilize the foam.
  4. If you don’t have an electric mixer, use a whisk. It will help incorporate more air into the coffee whip than a fork.
  5. Whip it good! Keep whisking, even if it doesn’t look like it’s working. It can take up to five minutes of hand whisking for it to start getting fluffy. The payoff will be worth the wait.
